It’s been quite the week for CCLA’s Jill Eisenstadt and her latest novel.

A fantastic “175 Minutes with…Jill Eisenstadt” profile posted on, in which Jill discusses the inspiration behind the novel and visits some familiar haunts in Rockaway. She was also interviewed on the New York Times Book Review‘s weekly podcast, about the role of the Rockaways in her fiction and what inspired her to revisit the characters from her first novel, FROM ROCKAWAY. Listen in to hear Jill read an excerpt too.

And there’s more! Sam Sifton mentioned SWELL as ideal summer reading in his “What to Cook This Weekend” newsletter, saying “if you read it down the beach at Fort Tilden, so much the better, but you’ll get the scent and flavor of Rockaway even if you’re in a hammock outside of Seattle, and that is just great. That is the joy of it, right there.”

We couldn’t agree more.
